2004 chevy monte carlo transmission knock when gears switch.?

There seems to be a hard knock when my transmission changes gears on my 2004 monte carlo ss. there is a hard knock during my first two gear changes then it seems to work good from there. I bought the car with 50k from the dealership and it now has 70k I do frequent oil changes every 3 months but never changed the transmission fluid on it. I dont run my car hard in fact I treat it as my baby. I looked at my transmission dip stick and the fluid seemed more brown than red. does anyone know if this is a serious problem or do i just need to change my fluid out. I have about 5k left on my warranty. Thanks
