I recently bought a used 2003 Pontiac Vibe. I left the lights on overnight, and the battery died. The keyless entry remote didn't work of course, since the car's battery was dead. I tried to open the car with my actual key, and it would not open. I had always used the remote before then, so I never had tried using the key in the doors. I ended up having to call the locksmith to get into my car in order to jump start it.

The ignition key still will not open the doors. The manual says that there is only one key for the car (not a separate one for opening the doors). I have contacted the dealership (not a Pontiac dealership), and they have been pretty worthless in helping me. Any suggestions?

Previous owner could have had door locks replaced. Sounds like you will have to call a locksmith.

sorry about troubles.

1 check engine lite on? may be anti theft system
2 get dealer to reset it
3 wow...my 99 lites shut off when car is shut off...and on when running.

The ignition and door lock(s) obviously do NOT match.

You can take the VIN to a Pontiac Dealer and have them check to see if it's the ignition that's been changed out or the door lock(s).

It's most likely the ignition that was was replaced unless your door key lock is only on one door. In that case, that door has most likely been changed changing the key lock which means the car has been wrecked before. Did you get a CarFax with it? AND that "locksmith" should have caught that and re-keyed the door lock(s) to match your key.

At any rate, after you get the info you need from a Pontiac Dealer (off of the VIN) you will then be able to have a locksmith "re-key" the locks to match the ignition key that you have or re-key the whole car and get keys to match the VIN again. They may even be able to do it at the Pontiac Dealership. If not they should be able to recommend a good locksmith for you to go to.

EDIT: Question, does your key work in any other locks on the car? A clue can be had there. ;)

I hope all this helps. Good Luck!
