2003 Mercury Sable LS. Popped out of gear and now will not go back into gear.?

Had just turned left onto a street and began to accelerate when trans. suddenly, and without warning, slip out of gear. Tried to re-engage to no avail. Shifter moves fine and trans. will go into park but only into neutral otherwise. Tried to reset by shutting off car and then starting again but same problem. Transmission fluid level good. What's wrong?
 
I'm not a mechanic and that's what you need. But, it does sound like a 'linkage problem'. If you look under the hood (with engine OFF) while someone is moving you transmission stick, you will see the movement of your 'transmission linkage'. Once you see that, follow it with your eyes and hand and see/feel if something is obstructing the linkage from moving into the desired gear. I hope that's the answer because it the easiest/cheapest to correct. Otherwise, to the repair shop $$$.
 
Sounds like a loss of transmission fluid pressure. You're going to need to go to a transmission shop for diagnosis. Most likely you're not going to like what they tell you.
