2003 Mercury Sable fan will not work?

My blower motor fan will not work the AC or the heater. Is there a short to the blower motor or is the motor itself out? How can I find out if it is electrical or the motor?
How do I find out if it is the switch on the dash,blower motor, or what? The dealer is just going to rip me off. This came on last week and then started working when ever it wanted to but now it will not blow any air, hot or cold, at all
 
look under your car at the front and find the wire that goes to your fan and see if theres a short in it.. that will fix your fan. if air is blowing after you fix your fan and theres no cold air you need recharge your freeon...and there is a thoggle switch for your heating and it needs replaced.. you would be better off to take to ford to be worked on, " would save you time and money"...
