2003 Mazda Protege (O/D light comes on occasionally)?

[2003 Mazda Protege]

Hi, i have a 2003 Mazda Protege (about 60K miles) and the O/D light periodically comes on.

What is the best course of action? Should I add fluids, etc? And, what exactly does this light denote? Thanks!
