2003 Honda Accord EX V6 lights?

My dash lights went out....not the lights where the spedometer are or the gear shift...but the entire radio and climate control area. I can't see anything on the screen....I took it to a local mechanic and he wouldn't touch it as he said it would cost a lot just to get the dash off to see what the problem is....then on the other hand i have a friend telling me that its probably just a cheap fuse.
 
If you haven't checked the fuse then do that first.

That is a 5 minute job.
