2003 Ford Explorer Vibrating while turning/braking?

My boyfriend owns a 2003 ford explorer. It just passed the 100k mark and is in pretty good shape. About 6-9 months ago he took it to the dealer where he has a warranty to get some things replaced in the back end. One thing led to another and they ended up having to replace just about everything in the rear compartment (rack and pinion, bearings, etc.). I cannot remember what the point was to replace everything but they acted like everything was just crumbling when they took it off. So now lately we've been hearing a vibrating sound usually when he brakes or makes a turn... like turning into a parking spot. It sounds fine at first and the longer you drive the worse it sounds. It sounds kind of like something is rubbing but we can't see any tire wear or anything out of the usual. I hear it more in the rear end and he says he feels it and hears it all over so I can't pinpoint a location. What does this sound like to you? He hasn't replaced his brakes in a while so I'm thinking that may have something to do with it. Any advice?
