My daughters car is 2003 Ford Escort and the brake lights stay on after she turns car off. At first pumping the brake pedal a couple of times worked, or, gently pulling the brake pedal up made the brake lights turn off, But Now... she pulls up gently on the pedal, and the lights go off, but as she walks away the brake lights come back on.... does anyone know exactly what this is from and how much to fix?

Well it sounds like a brake light switch. It is located behind the brake pedal. It normaly cost between $15 and $40. For the most part they are not to hard to change.

The brake light switch on the brake pedal is stuck or out of adjustment. Cleaning it with WD40 might free it up. Remove any grit and hair that's caught on it.
