I have a 2003 Chevy Venture minivan. Yesterday while driving, I hit a speed bump pretty hard. When I stopped the car at my destination I put the car in park and shut off the vehicle.

When I went to leave the car would not start. It appeared that the car was "stuck in reverse". By the way this is an automatic transmission.

The shift lever on the column was very loose and it would not switch gears. Upon further inspection and opening the hood, I saw that there is a cable that connect to an arm that switches modes in the transmission. This cable had become disconnected.

How does this cable reattach? I can stick my hand down there and place it back on the "post" that its supposed to connect to and get it into gear, but anytime a hit a bump or something it comes back off.

I noticed when I push on it, it seems that is a small hole in the housing that attached to the post that appears to almost snap it on but because of it's location I can get enough leverage to pop it on.

Big issue? New cable or remove a bunch of parts in may way and pound it on?
