My boyfriends cadillacs engine light came on. The dealer said it was the thermostat. We were having no problems with it at the time. He never had the thermostat fixed because they said it would cost 600 bucks. Apparently they are insanely hard to get to in this model car. Now every once in a while this car wont start. When he comes back like 30-40 minutes later it will start. We took it to the dealer, left it there 3 days and they could not figure out what was wrong with it. It didnt do it while there. Now, of course it is still doing it. What could this be? Is it the thermostat? Something else? I told him he needs to take it to Cadillac to have it fixed but we all know the dealers charge a ton of money. Any suggestions?
How do you fix a crank sensor?

If the check engine light is still on get the cpu scanned for the code. Most service stations offer this at a decent price. Even if the CEL isnt on still get it scanned because there might still be a code stored in the cpu

crank sensors are notorious for failing and giving an intermittent no start.

While it is true that there is a code for faulty thermostat, it will not cause a no start. It will only flag a code for the engine not reaching proper operating temp within a specified amount of time.
