I have a 2002 Toyota Celica that im working on and the engine is blown. The Celica is the Gt version and has the 1.8L VIN R, 1ZZFE eng, these engines run about $1600 and I cant afford to pay that. I know that the Toyota Matrix uses this same engine, and I also know that the Matrix and the Pontiac Vibe are identical cars. Ive found a 1.8L Pontiac Vibe engine for $750 and I want to know if it will fit in the Celica?

FIrst thing to do is figure out what happened to your original engine. Is it just the head gasket??? Was it run on too little oil, or something?? Toyota engines are very hard to hurt. It is most unlikely that the entire engine is ruined. Blowing an engine can mean almost anything. You might just need a new head gasket, and a cyl head milling. If you replace the engine, and some sensor wires were to blame for the problem, you will blow another engine for nothing. Make sure you are doing what is required. See?? You are probably better off if you have an experienced Toyota tech examine your issue. You will save $$$$$
