2002 Mazda 626 Engine Knocking at low RPMs?

I have 2002 Mazda 626 6 Cyl and the engine is knocking only at low RPM. Once i cross over 30 MPH, it reduces.

My mechanic said the knock is due to the hydraulic lifters and doesnt require immediate attention. But when i took my car to firestone they are saying it is due to some Transmission belt tensioner and the car can let me down any time due to this. In the some internet articles they are saying this may be fixed by using some antiknock oils.

I am confused as to what could be the real reason for this knock on low RPMs and what should be done to fix it. Any help is much appreciated!!

I would go with your mechanic for now. It is the credit crunch and I had the opposite problem. My mechanic told me that my old tank would cost £800 to get through the next MOT, but offered to buy it off me for £200. I said ha ha. I just had my MOT done by a good business owned by a family and it cost me £191 total. The value of it is now £1.395.

I would go with the lifters though. Antiknock oils are cheaper than the alternative.
