I have a 2002 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 L with 28k miles. There is a ticking noise in the engine. I have new plugs, recent Mobil 1 synthetic oil changed, good oil presure and good temperature. The noise is bad enough for my girlfriend to tell me I need to get it looked at. Some days the ticking is worse than others. Any suggestions on what I should do? I am pretty good at doing repairs myself.
Yes, I only have 28k miles on the jeep. It is not the fan nor any belt. It seems to be internal. I read that a lot of jeeps have issues with clicking. Would bad spark possibly be a cause? Also I am interested to learn or hear more about why an oil pump would cause this? My presure seems fine.
I am afraid it may be lifters... can they be checked? Is there someway for me to do this? How about the difficulty of changing them out?
I change the oil with Mobile Fully Syn. 10w-30. I change it myself. I know the sound is near the back of the engine possibly passenger side. I will continue to post and update and appreciate all the input of everyone.
