I have a 2002 Honda Accord V6 which has a bad transmission and 117k miles. It hard shifts/slips on 2nd and 3rd. How much would it cost to: 1. rebuild 2. buy new 3. buy used. What are the pros and cons of each. What would you recommend? I took it to a local company, they tried replacing the solenoids which did not work. Now they want me to pay $1k for a soft rebuild plus the cost of anything else they find wrong in there. It shows no errors on their scope. Please help.
It's a 4 speed automatic. Can't believe I left that out. Wish I had purchased a manual.

Is it a manual or automatic? If you know how to pick one out, get a used one. You'll save alot of money. But if you don't know what to look for when buying it, then go ahead and get a new one. If its a manual, couldn't it just be the clutch?

i'd personally buy a new one from factory. rebuilds tend to have a lotta problem even tho it's probably the 2nd cheapest. used trannies, you don't know where they've been and who knwos, it might start slippin like your old one. if you buy a trans from factory and get it installed at a Honda dealership, it may be expensive but you get 1year/12000 mile warranty all across the US.

NOTE: there was also a service bulletin on the 98-02 Accords for the trans so take it to a Honda dealership first and see if it qualifies.
