2002 Ford Taurus Heater prolbem?

Hi, I have a 2002 Ford Taurus that runs well and its a great car. But recently the heater hasnt been working. I will turn on the heat and it will only blow cold air and I really need the heater because I live in Arkansas and its really cold. Also sometimes If I let it run for a while and then turn the heat onit will blow warm air and then go back to cold air. Can you PLEASE help me!
 
low coolant thermostat stuck open or heater core plugged

first check level of coolant
replace thermostat easy cost like 20 bucks any parts store
can feel heater hoses if both are hot or not both hot heater core is ok and its themostat plusd if its real cold might want to drop a small flap off a box in front of radiator to build up more heat ive done that more than once in tennessee
 
Check both heater core hoses coming out of the firewall they both need to be hot if not the heater core is plugged and needs flushed and yes they can be flushed.
