Yeah so 2 nights ago I heard as if there was some type of wrapper sticking to my door, thats the sound it was making on my 2002 Ford Explorer with 76,000 miles on it. Then yesterday the sound got a whole lot worse, I was driving and it got so loud, I brought it to a mechanic and he said I need a new motor. I looked at my oil and there was hardly any! I dont know why, but my oil light never went on, Idk but i put 5 qts. in last night.but it still sounds the same, so Now the motor is fried. The car still starts and runs just the knock is gonna really knock soon and eventually break.

I dont know what to do , im only 17 my parents arent gonna pay a fortune to fix this truck.

Whats my best bet in this situation?

And i DO NOT wanna sell this truck, I wanna fix it.

You say it's using oil, that's a clue, it may have oil deposits built up on the pistons that cause heavy detonation..and it will sound like a rod bearing knocking...

try this..mix some alcohol with water and put it in a spray bottle...open up the air box, just take out the filter, then with the engine running at 2500 rpms, spray the water mix into the air duct until it just about dies, let it recover and repeat.. this should clean the pistons off and might just get rid of the knock..

How ever the cause of the oil consumption is still there and will build up again...it's probably broken rings..
