About a month ago my car began to run funny. FYI, my check engine light has been on since I bought the car. The dealership ran tests and said that it was a bad gas cap. I have replaced 4 times and it still stays on. They said no other codes were coming up. If I can describe it well enough....
1) When put in reverse it acts like it's going to stall out (not every time)
2) After first start up and driving about 1/4 of a mile it acts like it is losing power or not getting gas to it (this has been getting worse) and the check engine light starts flashing, but as soon as it starts acting right again, the light quits flashing.
3) When driving on the highway, it sometimes jerks liek it is losing power or gas.
I have been told it can be dirty fuel injectors (I have put cleaner in for 5 tanks of gas now with no difference). My gas mileage has not gone up or down with anything that is going on with my car.
The codes that come up on the check engine light are the same ones from when I bought the car, P0042 & P0455.
Does anyone know what this could be? I am hoping it's not the fuel pump. I don't have the extra $400 right now to replace it.
