2002 dodge diesel truck fuel pump ?

I have a 2002 dodge diesel truck. I've been told if the lift pump goes out it will kill the injector pump. Is that true? If it is should I go ahead a replace the lift pump now. I have about 135,000 mi. on it now. Or is there something I can do to prevent this. With the price of a new injector pump I would like to do everything I can do to prevent this.
 
Not sure about Dodge but GM had a real problem with this in the 6.2 and 6.5 engines, they were actually covering the lift pumps under warranty for 10 years regardless of mileage, you may want to check into it and see if they have been having the same problem on Dodges
