2001 V-Star 1100 good starter bike?

I just completed and passed my riding class and rode a Ninja 250cc for it which is obviously totally different than the V-Star 1100. I purchased the 1100 from my friends dad and just worried that its gonna be too different for me than the Ninja. Think this is a good starter bike or too big?
