i have only owned the truck for one year as far as i know it has always ran conventional oil is it true that if i switch this late in the trucks life that it will cause seal leaking it currently has no leaks and runs great

i wouldn't worry about the seals as much, but you will be exposing the metal to new additives that are in the synthetic oil that it's not used to. contact a toyota company and ask them before putting that kind of oil in. it's a possibility that the additives in the oil can make the metal parts weaker, and nobody wants a twisted crankshaft or warped valves.

as i been in automotive industry for about 10 years , it's a great job and am now 24 years old too young , yea well i had done motor swept , transmission, to body shop to oil changes and u names it .
changing oil on times is least things u can do to a car ,
as if u notice in the owner manual it tell u to change the oil at 5000 miles , but the oil company want you to change it at 3000 miles ( so they can stay in business) .
the oil that they take for free at any auto store it go for recycling , that mean they just add some chemical ,dye, and go thru filtering it take 48 hours define 120 gallons and cost them about 25 dollars procces is done and now your putting oil that u have no idea where it comefrom and what engine .
if your sitching to syntheticis a good idea but stick to it .make sure no leak or you would be adding a 5 dollars quart every 500 miles , but on ur first synthetic oil change should be at 500 miles cause it would be black oil that mean it just cleaned ur engine and carbons, and then take down the oil pan and clean it, install new pan gasket and clean the oil pump screen .
cheap oil :change it at 2000 miles
good oil yu can get away to 6000 miles

here are some tricks
*****installing a magnet on the oil filter is an egine saver .
*****adding 25-30% trans fluid in the motor would clean ur engine (u cant keep it for more then 30 minutes
*****5w20 lube better if u drive city , lower speed and short trip
****10w40 lube better at high speed , long trip.and the thicker the oil the better but not good for cold weather .
thinner oil would give u better gas milleage too becaus eit's easy to turn inside the engine .
installing an oil cooler would save the engine some life

this is what all the true about changing oil and etc, see what u belive and hope my advise help
