2001 Mercury Sable internal fuel pump - how hard is it to replace?

2001 Mercury Sable internal fuel pump - how hard is it to replace?
Anyone have the procedure on this? How hard would be be as a "sidestreet mechanic"? I understand a few lines would need to be disconnected, and the fuel tank dropped, then swap out the fuel pumps... sounds easy enough. But any have any actual experience with it?
 
as cold it is i don,t think i would do it along the street. it,s not too bad. see if you can have it towed to a garage.
 
you need a good work place to do it in,the job goes a lot better if you have shop or at least a good garage to work in,and someone to help you,its not impossible to do by your self but it sure is a lot harder,another thing that will make it easier to do is get all the gas from the tank that you can,its hard to handle a tank with a few gallons of gas in it, i have done a few of those and at best your looking at a good 3-4 hours to get that one done,good luck.
 
Fist you need a good hydraulic jack,a flathead screwdriver,a set of Ford quick disconnect tools "found at any auto parts store and i think its a 1/2 in socket to take the straps aloose.First disconnect the battery then the fuel lines.After so raise your jack up to the fuel tank and apply alittle pressure to the fuel tank so that once the straps are removed it won't fall.Then loosen the straps one at a time,once the fuel tank is free balance it center on the jack,most people use plywood or some other flat surface.Bring the jack down slow making sure all lines are free and the tank and straps are free.Take the screwdriver place it in the circular groove and tap it open and follow the rest of the directions that come with the new pump.If you need more e-mail me at [email protected]
 
i did a fuel pump on the ground its not that easy best bet get a floor jack and jack stands and put the car as high as it can go and if there is more than a quater tank of gas the tank will weigh a ton its not the hardest i rate it a 6 out of ten
