2001 Honda Civic LX Sedan 1.7 Liter engine swap to a VTEC?

I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX Sedan 1.7 liter automatic and would like to upgrade the engine to a VTEC automatic, my question is if I buy a 01-05 VTEC SOHC engine would it fit in my car? can I use the stock LX ECU? and also would I have to replace the transmission to work with the EX VTEC engine?
