2001 ford sport trac brake issue?

2001 ford sport trac issue with the brakes, come to a stop sign, hit the brakes, the truck stops fine, then pedal depresses farther then normal, stops ok but there addition brake pedal travel. brake pads are newer, don't know if it could be air in the lines, caliber starting to have a problem? don't know what it could be i am going to change the brake pads again but not sure if that will fix the brake pedal travel issue? any ideas plz let me know? thx in advance mike
