2001 FORD FOCUS OVERDRIVE LIGHT FLASHING?

I have a 01 ford focus and when i drive it my overdrive light starts flashing and my car jerks until the overdrive stays on. to try and stop this from happening i tried disconnecting the overdrive off option, but the overdrive still goes from on to off and the light starts flashing again can anybody help please
 
I dont know that much about transmissions but it sounds like you have maybe a belt that is slipping off the overdrive, anyways it sounds like a pretty serious transmission problem so i would take it to a good transmission shop and see what they say.
 
at what speed 45 or under it doesnt work at a speed it might switch back and forth
might be dirty transmission fluid might be a warning to hav eit check
