I have a 2001 Ford Escape XLT and of course it's bright white so all of the rust is really starting to show! It's starting in about 4 different places.
On both sides of the rear wheel wells it is rusting it's probably about 4 inches wide and maybe an 1 inch high. Underneath the wheel wells it is rusting quite bad as well, to the point where it is beginning to erode.
On the tailgate it is beginning just above glass and is about three inches wide by an inch high. Also along the very bottom of the tailgate it is beginning to erode a little bit from the underside but is now spreading across the entire end of the gate.
What can I do to stop the rust from spreading but also covering it up so it's no longer noticeable. I live in upstate NY so I know that salt is an issue but I want the car to look good for the remainder of my ownership.
Also, if the rust is covered and fixed around how much would it cost to have the entire car painted? Could it look like it was done as the factory would do it? It's white now so I think it would be easier.
Thanks so much.
