2001 Ford Escape Cold Start Trouble?

I have a 2001 Ford Escape with 112,000 miles. Lately it really REALLY doesn't like starting in cold weather. When the car first starts, it idles VERY choppy and sometimes stalls if you don't feed it gas when it starts getting choppy. Once it warms up a lot, it runs fine both driving and idling. The battery is in great shape. We just had the oil change and all the fluid levels were fine. They replaced the air filter at the same time. The guy at Jiffy Lube said it sounded like a fuel filter, but he couldn't be sure.

Does it sound like the fuel filter? I would hate to take it into a shop and have them find a million things that are "wrong" that aren't really necessary if it's something simple.
