I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota quad cab 4x4 truck. 152,000 miles. The check engine light is on with code P0442 I've done some research and found that its a small vacuum leak somewhere, and i'd like some ideas on where i can look to try and find the problem myself instead of paying a shop like $100 just to tell me it's the gas cap? The light came on like a few months ago and went off for about a week and then back on, i don't drive it everyday though, just when i need to, but it's been almost everyday lately. The cap has some weather cracks around it so i thought maybe? Do you think autozone or o'reilly auto parts stores would have a cap that i could try? Also i've heard that if you take the gas cap off and it doesn't make that "ssssss" sound releasing pressure then the cap might be the problem? I took the cap off once and it made the sound but hasn't been lately and some of the other cars from friends and family didn't make the sound, do you have to be driving for a certain period of time so the tank builds up enough pressure for it to make the sound when you take the cap off?
