2001 Chevy Surburban keeps losing dim lights.?

Surburban: Issue, on occasion I will loose dim lights. Brights work just fine. Happened a few times. Kill the engine and restart a few times and the dims start working again. Not sure where to start. Dimmer switch on column, or light switch in dash. Strange that is it sporatic.
 
It is not really strange there is an intermittent short. It is far harder to repair than if it just quit. I don't think it will be the dash switch. It more likely than not will be the dimmer switch.
Do they just go out or do you lose them when switching?
