2001 Chevy Impala CD player issues?

I just learned today that my CD player in my 2001 base Impala has stopped reading CD's... It takes the disc into the tray, brings up the track counter, then ejects the disc with an error message stating check CD... The disc is fine, plays flawlessly in other players. Not sure if this is a cold weather related issue as it was very cold in Michigan today. Any relevant information would be appreciated.
