2001 Chevy Impala 3.4 overheating?

The car only overheats while at high rpm's or while driving. It will run cool at idle for hours. I've replaced the thermostat, the water pump, the radiator, the cooling fans, and the intake manifold gaskets. There is no leak but I do have to add coolant after it overheats. The upper radiator hose is hot but the lower hose is not. It seems as if the water is burning up or evaporating inside the engine and not flowing back into the radiator. Obviously I have already spent more on this car than it is worth but without it getting fixed I will lose everything I've put into it. Can anyone help?
