I was looking at a 2001 Chevrolet Prizm. It's an automatic transmission, and has 118,602 miles on it. They said that when they were driving the car last fall, it suddenly coasted to the side of the road and quit as if someone turned the key off. They said the engine turned over fine last fall, but the battery is dead now. (They kind of confused me a little...I'm basically copying what they wrote in their description.) Does anyone have an idea what is wrong with it? The cost to repair it? Thanks.
I'm trying to find a cheap car, and I know it will take more money to fix it. However, if it is going to cost anywhere near $1000 or more, then i'm not interested.
The car is listed on eBay, but it is located in my area. The bidding starts at $100, but it is obvious people will bid on it. I emailed the seller about it, and am waiting to hear back.
Both the exterior and interior are in excellent condition. There is no rust at all and the paint is great. The interior is very clean, and in great condition as well.

The 2001 Chevy Prism is a rebadged Toyota Corolla, with a cheaper interior. These are very good cars and have a great repair history.

That being said, if the owner is listing it for a very cheap price, it might be worth asking permission to have it towed to a repair facility and be given a quote. Make some sort of agreement with the owner that if you do this, the costs of towing and quote be deducted from the purchase price. This way, you get a professionals opinion on what it would take to repair it, which helps you (if you decide to buy it) and helps the owner (he decides to keep it). I would only do this if it is being sold for a VERY good price.
