2000 Nissan Maxima V6 Cuts Off @ Stop?

Hi,

On a friends "new" used car, 2000 Nissan Maxima GLE V Automatic, her car cuts off sometimes when at or barely at a complete stop. Doesn't occur everytime, intermittent.

There is a small crack on top of the radiator that I will be replacing. From what she has told me, my best guess she ran it when it was close to overheating.

I was wondering if the cut-off issue is somehow related to the radiator leak, a safety mechanism or something. The cut-offs only happend the day I went to see the vehicle and test drove it with her after she called me about the problems she was having. Which at that time, her father had refilled the coolant.

Before I read an answer, my guess would be that because there's a breach in the radiator, a pressure cannot be held within the radiator. A sensor may be present to pick up the incorrect pressure reading and is throwing the car into limp (which from what she described to me when she ran it hot, the car wouldn't allow her to go above 30MPH - 40MPH or so) with the computer programmed to determine whether a overheating situation is imminent and to keep it from overheating.

I'm well mechanically inclined, but still learning :)
... of course, if the cut-offs are related to the coolant leak. If not, best guess would be with the ignition have an intermittent fault.
