Hey guys, I have a 2000 1.6L Mazda Protege. I bought the car last July and haven't had any issues with the car. Today driving home from work down the thruway, my car would no longer run properly. I went from 70 mph to 0 real quick. Car was running great then all of a sudden I basically had no gas pedal. When I went to step on the gas, it felt like there was a 2x4 under the pedal.

The car will run and I was able to get off the road. I'm unable to drive it. When the car is in park, it'll rev up and down without being on the gas. It's like the car wants to go there is just nothing there. The car is in the garage, just looking for advice on what could be wrong. At least it went bad at a good time, inspection is in June. Thanks for everything.

I thought your foreign made cars were of such superior quality. There sure are a lot of repair questions for them on here for being "such high quality".

it sounds to me that the way you described it that there'ss a combination of things wrong. First since you said it went from 70 to 0 quick, you've got a major transmission problem. now the other thing it could be is that thethrottle body of you engine is stuck and the random rev is your computer trying to level it out but not succeeding but other than that i would have to actually take a look at your car, listen to it, and ride with you to be able to understand what has happened. sorry couldn't be of more help.
