2000 mazda b3000 4wd actuator?

i was doing a little playing with my mazda and i caught a lot of mud with the front underside of my truck. i got out and put it back in to 2wd. later on i went to put the truck into 4wd and it wouldnt engage. i looked under the truck and pulled out dirt and mud and what ever else. i sprayed off the underside of my truck. it still wouldnt engage into 4wd high or low. the truck set for about 3 hours maybe a little bit more and i went to leave and tried to put it into 4wd. it engaged just finr and then this morning i got into my truck and engaged it into 4wd high and low and everything worked just fine. is there anyone out there have a idea about what happened to make my 4wd not engage. at the time that i tried to engage it i really really needed the 4wd..that was fun not having it. so if anyone has any ideas could you help me out. i was just thinking that the actuator is messing with me. oh yea, when it wasnt engaging the 4wd high and4wd low light on my dash was blinking every now and then. please shoot me an answer
