2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee cuts off while driving. Now it wont start at all.?

I have a 2001 Jeep grand cherokee 4.0 6cyl. It cuts off randomly while driving. It will usually crank back up immeditaly but will sometimes take 5 mins or longer. When it does this my speedometer and tach bottom out and then come back on almost like its an electrical problem. It did this about 2 weeks ago and now will not start at all. It sounds like its trying to turn over it just wont fire. I've read a couple of post like this and everyone says its the fuel pump. Im just hoping someone has some advice before i have to take it into the shop. Thanks
