2000 ford taurus with transmission problems?

iI have a 2000 taurus DOHC engine my father owns a shop but what i need to know is how to fix it the leak is coming from some rubber cap at the end of the gear box (almost in the middle but more of to the driver side)(is there some type of bearing back there?) I tried to take it off but the engine was to hot can some one help
