Mileage is about 107k. A few months ago I was having problems with a strange smell when I would park the car. It was a sort of burning smell that I was told seemed to be transmission fluid, but it seemed OK and all the fluid levels were alright, and no leaks at that point.
In the last few weeks, whenever I parked the car the check oil light would flash for a bit, but it would go away and I'm due for an oil change. Not sure if this is relevant to anything, but I figure the more information the better.
Now then, to the actual problem. Today I noticed MAJOR transmission leaking. On the way home I was called and told that there was a big puddle of transmission fluid where I had been parked. When I got home, I backed up and was parked for about 15-30 seconds, and I pulled forward again and there was a very large puddle of transmission fluid.
Obviously there is some sort of leak, but I'm hoping somebody here will be able to give a more specific diagnosis; what might need to be repaired, anything further I can check, and estimated cost of repair. I myself am not very experienced with car repair, and although I won't be using it I won't have a chance to take it to a mechanic for a few days and in the mean time I figured I'd look for some answers.
