2000 Ford Taurus has heating issue?

Ok, I have this 2000 Taurus. Before I begin, the cars cooling system is perfect. The coolant is "spot on". The issue is that the cars heat will briefly (5 seconds) push warm air when the dial is turned to hot. After the 5 seconds, the car will only push cool air. The temperature gauge on the car is perfect, its not overheating, & runs as it always has. The darn heat is the million dollar question. I have heard about the Blend Door on these Taurus's taking a crap, but I am just looking to see what other ideas may be suspect hear. Thanks for your help.

what you heard is true - the blend doors are notorious on taurus vehicles. this usually shows up with the opposite problem of what you are describing though. in other words, the vehicles air conditioning usually doesn't cool the interior even though the ac is working if there is a blend door problem. what you are describing sounds like it may be a clogged heater core. try this - bring the vehicle up to normal operating temperature. set the heater control on high. then raise the hood and feel the heater hoses where they attach to the heater core (about the middle of the firewall). if both hoses are hot at that point you may have a blend door issue. however, if only one hose is hot and one is warm or cool, you probably have a clogged heater core. this is also a common taurus concern. good luck.
