2000 Ford ranger speedomter quit.?

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 V6, rear ABS brakes, one of the lights in upper middle portion of my speedometer quit working-it is now lit but dimly, a couple months after this occured the speedometer MPH reading quit working. What would be causing these problems?
 
Sounds like you should replace the instrument cluster. If the vehicle is still shifting correctly I would say that rules out the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) being faulty. You can find one in a salvage yard for much cheaper than the dealer.
