Hi, I am in Ohio and I am searching for a used 2000 FF SE, thing is I found a nice fixer up-er, but my dad keeps telling me that in the long run its better to get a new car. Thing is daddy-o I don't have that kinda money for a new one.

So My question is (for someone who knows about this kind of car) Is it cheaper to purchase a used one with 105,350 miles and have it fixed by a mechanic,

or

Buy a better one used for around 6 to 8 thousand? with anywere from 20 - 50 thousand miles?

I'm really clueless about it. Just in case I have 3grand in cash, but sounds like I'm going to need a loan...

Your going to need to learn about the repairs that need to be done. Even if you don't plan on doing them yourself learn the procedures first. This will 1. help you understand the cost of the repairs 2. allow you to chose weather you can do some of the work yourself, and 3. weather or not its worth it to you to do or pay someone to do it for you.
€€The millage isn't that bad and sometimes you can prioritize repairs for when you have the money to complete them.

the 2 thousand model has a lot of miles left in it if it was treated with care and you continue to do the same. There are some things that probably need addressed like a timing belt, shocks ,struts, cvc joints and a slew of other things that can and will go wrong. The thing is it is going to happen on any used car eventually.I say it is your call but with three grand cash you should be able to swing the car.Try to get all the maintenance records from any car you buy that way you know what was changed and the mileage that it was changed.hope this helps you.
GOOD LUCK
