My cousin has a 200 F350 with a 5.4l engine.

He has had problems in the past with plugs, and can not figure out why.

Here are my thoughts:
- Has an open exhaust, but no aftermarket intake, which could be restricting flow.
- He did not gap the plugs, which could cause some problems.

After pulling the plugs, he said it seems to look rich with dark wet residue on the plugs.

Any suggestions?

I';m not a Ford guy, and do not know much about these engines.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
- No Check Engine Light
- He has found one that is misfiring.
- Coolant is low.
- Seems to be rich.

Probably needs to replace the coil for the cylinders in question, but there could also be other problems. How many cylinders are fouling plugs? Is the check engine light on? Is it running rich? Any abnormal engine noises? Is it using any coolant? Could have a couple of things going on here. If you can get more info, that would help.

Each of your plugs have it's own coil pack, if any of those have gotten wet or are bad it will seem like it is out of time, or miss fire. like it will barely go.

I agree with tdot. I had a 2000 f150 with a 5.4 had the same problem. I changed the coil to fix mine.
