Bought my buick regal from a grandma and there was a slight problem with the electrical system due to her grandson putting coins in the CD player. The only adverse effect from it was when I turn off the car, I have to turn on and turn off the lights for them to go off. No big deal its a habit now.

Now, my power locks went out. My clicker(remote lock/unlock) works when it feels like but lately not often. When I hit the power lock button it doesn't work and I can't lock my car now unless I manually do it, which is a big deal. I know this must be an electrical issue because of the prior history, rather than an actuator problem.

My question is, how do I go about fixing this? I'm not sure even the first step to take. I'd rather do it on my own than a mechanic, but open to that suggestion if its to difficult to take on by myself.

wrecking the CD can not affect the rest of the electric system

1 check/replace battery in fob
2 check fuse for locks
3 check lock master switch

Replace the batteries in the key fob, (your clicker) it sounds like they are weak. Then try to use the passenger side power door lock switch, do all the locks work then? If so then you have narrowed it down to the driver side switch or wiring and that will have to remove the drivers door panel and test the switch and power going to it so if you don`t have a volt meter and know how to use it from there you may have to bring it in. But the key fob should work fine if you replace the batteries, pop the little cover off the back at the auto parts store or have them do it for you and they should have them in stock. Or you can go to a Batteries Plus store and they will also replace them for you for the price of the new batteries. I hope this will help you some, Good Luck. =^)
