2.8 Ghz Quad Core CPU Any Good for Gaming?

I am on a quest to build a semi-mean gaming machine! I'm on a strict budget as I also have to buy another car as well =/. So, I can't go all out and beef up my computer desk with the baddest mo' fo' I can buy. But...with that being said, I went ahead (and having the future in mind) bought an AMD Phenom II 925 2.8 GHz Quad Core CPU for around $120 a cheapy little case with a 400 W PSU. I got an ASRock N68-S AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 7025 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard for about $30. (I know, cheap prices ;] ). I also bought 2 sticks of 2 GB RAM clocked at 800 MHz DDR2. I'm not going to get a video card just yet, I'm going to stick with the onboard nVidia 7025 for now unless I have to buy a new card. Buy my question is: Will the Quad Core CPU be any good for gaming...as a matter of fact, will that system be any good for gaming? I know it will murder pre-2009 games, but what about newer, current games? Gaming is my only intention for this system. I won't even have an active internet connection b/c i want 0% chances of a virus on it.
