i am going to buy a motorcycle plain, and simple. i would like others opinons on what i should get.
should i go for a different brand, and work my way up or just get a Ducati. i love the 848, and i am unsure about just buying one.

I went through the same thing, ngmorales. I've always heard people say "get what you want, don't settle for something else or you won't be happy".

So that's what I did and I bought my 1098S. My first street bike....

I've ridden the 848 a few times. I love that bike. I think you'd be happy with it.

i think you need to work your way up. buying an 848 or a 1098/1198 for that matter is naive.

riding takes years and years of experience. these are serious machines that are not starter bikes. just my $0.02.

i wish i could say just go for it, but that is not the honest thing to say.

I say get the 848. It is an insanely easy bike to ride in almost every way. Smooth on the TQ and HP when it kicks in, not sudden like a Jap bike, VERY easy to control. I think it would make a great 1st street bike, IF you have the control.

...and I don't mean being in control, I mean self control.

Buy the 848 and you will NEVER even for a second regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is all presuming you have prior experience on other motorcycles or have at least had an MST course. Don't forget, ALL THE GEAR ALL THE TIME!

Stimacsays "Get a Ninja 250"
Live to move up in 3 months. $3500 new. Even if you have a drive way drop, you can re sell it for $3000.
Its EZ to move up, not so the other way.

You know what, Stim's right..if you haven't ridden, its probably best if you learned on a bike like the Ninja 250...its cheap and there's always a market...heck, they even race them in moto gp...

if you want something REAL nice, like an all out track bike for around $5k (and i'm sure you could get one for a lot less than $5k right now) check out the Aprilia RS125...

Either of these bikes can and will re-sale quickly...hell, you just might end up keeping it for shits and giggles just because they're so much fun...
