I own a 2007 Matrix. I had a question about downshifting into 1st and 2nd gear. I know these gears can be used going down steep hills to prevent from riding the brake. However, can they also be used going up steep hills? Specifically, when stopped at a light on a steep incline on a wet road, the tires will skid and slip when I try to accelerate when the light turns green. Can shifting into a lower gear before accelerating on a steep incline also help with this? Thanks.
