1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L Idle Fluctuates?

Just bought a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.7L V8. At idle I notice the R.P.M. fluctuates from about 600-1200. Is this normal for the V8 or is there an idle control sensor unit that's going bad? Any info would greatly be appreciated.
 
No this is not normal and you are correct the idle control sensor is not doing its job maybe, as could have other issues. Like dirty MAF (mass air flow sensor)
