1999 jeep cherokee help?

we have a 1999 jeep cherokee sport.in the morning or when the car is cold.i try to start the car and all it do is crank,will not run. the only way it will run is if i start the car with my foot on the gas pedal .after it runs if i release the gas pedal it goes off.when i make it run with my foot on the gas and the car get warm then i can release the gas and the card will not die..any idea please
