Further, there is a "whirrring" noise the first few minutes of driving after a start. Suggestions? Thanks.
This slow shift is when I first start it, not once it warms up a bit. Its best described as a pause before it engages into gear. E.g., P to R slight pause, go. R to D, same thing. Thanks!

The transmission fluid is just cold. Start your car up and leave it on for a few minutes for all the fluids to warm up and then drive. I wouldn't risk killing a transmission because you don't warm it up properly.

have your tranny serviced. It might just need new fluid and warm your car up for a whlie before you drive it.

Jeeps are notorious for transmission and wiring problems. Might be idling too high? fuel filter or coolant filter maybe? just some suggestions:)
