I was at the post office yesterday and got distracted for a moment and looked away then hit the base of a pole in the parking lot. It was made out of concrete and it caused my airbags to deploy. I was shocked. It was like a bomb and scared my little boy to death.
So now the airbags are hanging out of the steering wheel and the dash and the seat belts are locked.
I called Honda a minute ago and they want $1000 just to replace the two seat belts. I didn't even ask what they charge to do the bags. The Van is only worth about $3000 as it has 210,000 miles on it. But it's our only "decent" vehicle at the moment and my wife uses it daily. I must get these seat belts unlocked or now I'll risk getting a ticket for that plus it's unsafe but I can't afford any $1000 in this economy. For the sake of my wife and children can anyone steer me to a cheaper alternative. I don't guess it's imperative to get the bags replaced ( I did see those online for $150 to $200 each ) but I don't have a clue how to replace all of this stuff. Is this just going to cost more than it's worth?
Please help.
By the way...it's a Honda Odyssey Van.
Honda guy..thanks for being the first to try and help. Since it's a 1999 and only worth about $3000 ( 200K miles on it ) we only have liability insurance on it. I'm pretty sure only having liability insurance nullifies the chance that they'll pay for the repair. Thanks though.
