I have a 99 Ford Ranger, it is 2wd 4cyl 5spd*manual*

I am looking at towing a smaller boat *15footer* I didn't know how long my tranny will last as I've heard the Mazda cooling is quite poor. I only paid $700 for the truck and am ok with beating on it, but how much can I really tow? I've ready anything from 1600-UP but I'm not sure. I don't have a manual and Ford sucks for help on their website.

Thanks

Your Ranger is tougher than you think. I towed a full sized car several hundred miles with a similar Ranger. Surely your boat and trailer weighs less than my spare car. You shouldn't have any problems.

You should beable to get this info online for the Ford. The asiest answer would be to go to a U-Haul that sells trailer hitches and installs them. They can tell you if your truck can handle the towing of the boat. Just ask them if they sell and install the proper hitch. They'll tell if the truck can safely do it or not.

You do not have to worry only about overloading the engine, but the brakes and suspension. You may not worry about beating the truck, but you better be able to safely stop and handle the boat. Or yout putting alot of people's life in danger and the boat and trailer.
